These lamps are brilliantly simple. All you need to make your own is a light source & power cord (available at your local hardware store), a collection of geometrically-shaped (if you want) scraps, a compact fluorescent bulb (of course) and a light diffuser (like an old lampshade); a few minutes and your best ideas later, you'd have a new lamp that's more sustainable than the Tong and customized to your exact specifications. Get more ideas at mao & more, and happy DIY-ing!

Chrome styling helps but mainly it’s because of the addition of a VERY heavy base which makes it weigh alot. This makes it feel more luxurious and akin to the very expensive lamp. You feel like you are getting alot for your money as you lug the heavy box out of the shop.

Liquid Lamp

These stark white lamps are made from sturdy iron plate, but their fluid shape reminds us more of that glass cup full of paint that we knocked over (if it had been suspended in motion).
scribble lamps, jennifer Huang, pencil lamps, recycled lamps, sculptural lamps, twisted pencil lamps, recycled pencil lamps
Made from 256 pencils, Jennifer Huang’s Scribble Pendant Lamp is as quirky as it is stunning. A charming alternative to a regular lamp, Huang’s designs are a decorative adaptation of the everyday light fixture. Inspired by her classroom surroundings at the Edgewood Elementary School, the sculptural lamp is composed of a multitude of the classic Ticonderoga Envriostil pencils. Casting a subtle light, the lamps provide an atmospheric glow by beaming light between the pencils. A finalist in out Bright Ideas Lighting Design Competition, if you love the Scribble as much as we do, show your support and vote for Huang’s design here!

We're going to file this under "on the fence" for the time being, because, though we love the shape, we don't really get why it's made of porcelain. To us, lamps have always made more sense when the light can make it through the shade, but perhaps we're missing the point here.
We're also not quite sure why it's $950. But we like the color, and think if it was done in some type of see-through acrylic it would be really cool. Also available in black and white in smaller sizes and lower prices. What do you think? We'd love for someone to school us on the importance of this lamp.

cut series porcelain lamp by szilvia gyorgy

Aren’t these such unique lamps? They are the delicate creations of Australia based ceramic artist Szilvia Gyorgy, and are presented at Planet Furniture in Sydney. I love the elegant stacks of ceramic coils, which make the lamps look like delightful beehives from afar.

Lights are the last phase of the home décor. Sometimes we hasten through the selection of lights for the homes in impatience and hurry to get it over with and be done. But home lighting is one aspect which alone sometimes can make or break the home décor, make it look great or just so-so. Good amount of lighting properly placed can bring alive all your furniture, walls, carpet and curios and make it glow like magic. Ambient light can be achieved with both up-looking lights and downward lights – especially in the foyer area, staircase, and landing and general lounge area, ambient light is most important. Some areas do not get sufficient ambient light and we need target lights – focus lights – that will make up for the dingy and dark corners.

These Eco Design Lamps by Andriana Design are “impact pieces” that aren’t likely to be missed. Table Cubes ignore all classic lighting conventions, offering a fully functional table eco lamp with integrated illumination. Six-inch plexi squares are fixed and appear to float on a frosted-clear base. This contemporary aesthetic, coupled with the palette of vibrant colors, puts some pizzazz into a boring space. But if you prefer your lighting overhead, this company offers a full range of innovative eco design pendants too. The Cascades of Color table lamps boast more than 200 hand-worked glass rods, dangling from its square or rounded metal plate. The rich Amethyst color is right on trend. The plate measures 10 inches and stands 16 inches high. The base is available in the choice of dark walnut, natural mahogany, dark mahogany, high gloss white or custom finishes.

Brazilian designer Belo Horizonte's 80's Ghost Lamp should come with additional string pac-dots lights and a roll of quarters. Maybe he can design some Donkey Kong bookshelves to go alongside with these lamps and the NES Controller coffee table for the complete effect.

roger-borg-neon-lamps.jpg
Roger Borg presents a new concept in lighting with these Modern Neon Lamps. The basic idea is that instead of hiding the lighting source, the lamp itself becomes the light source. This being said, the only thing Roger Borg had to concentrate upon was the design. And he did a wonderful work creating a number of special free-standing neon lamps. The Six Column Merge Design and the Oval Crush both have a clear, white light. Seeming to be in a continuous movement, these two could easy dynamise any interior space. The Bulge Lamp, as the name suggests it, has an impressive appearance with its middle part looking slightly heavier than the two ends. No room could possibly be complete without a splash of color, would it? Here's why the Color Stack neon lamp was designed. Assembled of superposed colored neon components, it makes an excellent visual impact. Any of these Modern Neon Lamps by Roger Borg can be a unique feature in your modern space.
